As were in the market of linking tradies and small business to consumers, we have been following this story closely. Oneflare has been an evolving business for quite some time, and it’s been interesting to follow their model where customers can post a job and tradies can bid on that job. It’s an interesting model that’s been successfully rolled out in other industries around the world.
Of course we take exception that the article suggests that there is only room for two large players in the market. For the model they are using this may be true, but we believe they are forgetting one glaringly obvious thing……..There are 10 listings on the first page of Google.
Let me explain:
For sure Oneflare and HiPages have a large and growing database of users and service providers. Their authority an trust in the market ensures they do rank relatively well in the search engines. The “free market” then should allow the best bid to be selected. This is great for established and larger businesses, but it does make it difficult for smaller, 1 man operations of family businesses to gain exposure.
The Homegiraffe model of providing exposure to individual businesses gives them a fighting chance against the larger entities.
It’s and interesting time to be in the small business and tradie service market. We will be watching closely to see how the next few months play out.
